Lily Collins, a beautiful actress and producer, known for her star role as Emily in “Emily in Paris”, opened up about her eating disorder and shared her personal experiences. In 2017, when promoting her movie To The Bone, she talked about the deep connection to her character Ellen, who suffers from anorexia. This was the first time she opened up about this, sharing that she had suffered from eating disorders as a teenager.

Collins lost weight to play the role in her movie, To The Bone, however, she was given a nutritionist in order to remain supported during the job. She shares that as emotional as it was to play the part of a young girl with anorexia, having stand by support on set, like a given nutritionist really helped her. This movie is a valuable tool to young girls struggling with eating disorders because she is relatable, someone that raises awareness, and hopes for recovery. This movie dissects the complexities of eating disorders and this ultimately was a very hard role Collins had to step into. Overall, Collins thanked her fans for making her constantly feel beautiful, and this goes to show that it’s all about the people you surround yourself with. Obviously, Collins’ fan base is bigger than so many peoples, but she remains as an inspiration and survivor, showing that people can change. Looking at her now, she is healthy and happy!

Surrounding yourself around people that make you feel good about yourself is what most people need when suffering or recovering from eating disorders. Opening up to others and sharing your story is hard. Sometimes people won’t have the reaction you expect, as they could show shock, disapproval, sadness, or even anger. But with people you truly love and trust, they will show support, and love, and be ready to take on any challenge you may face. Find supportive peers, as they will be there for you when you need it most.

All in all, Collins says that reflecting on her past “has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of her life,” as she had never told anyone about what she has suffered from. Use Collins as an inspiration and know that sometimes opening up to others will be more fulfilling than you expect. You are beautiful and enough!
